April 2020 Update: Yesterday we made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our Main Event scheduled for May 9th, 2020.
We waited as long as we could to make this decision in hopes that the Covid-19 situation may turn around quickly in our favour, but with the most recent projections given by our health minister, it looks like current measures being taken in our province will continue into May and possibly further.
Following all of our major events cancellations for the year, this is especially hard for us as it is our biggest event, which brings in the most funds crucial to sustaining our programs. We know it is the best decision, and really the only decision that had to be made as the people our programs help are among the most vulnerable populations right now. And it is crucial we ALL do our part to STAY HOME and reduce risks as much as possible.
BUT there are some silver linings! We know our community of support is strong and will come back with us stronger than ever for our 2021 events. we also know that there are people out there who CAN afford to continue to help those in need. We have seen some amazing good news stories despite all of the less positive and uncertainty.
SO, we are asking of you to do a few things if you can, especially knowing we will be down on funds and having to adjust some of our program offerings this coming year.
1. We WILL be hosting our event VIRTUALLY for those who are signed up to cut or shave & are fundraising currently. And we encourage those who still want to participate to please JOIN US! Sign up via this link: https://secured.bcchf.ca/registrant/EventHome.aspx…. We have the feeling many will be needing a fresh cut or shave over the next little while. You can even sign up to participate and fund raise without cutting or shaving your hair. Pages will remain open throughout all of 2020 so hopefully things will start to recover and it will get less hard financially, so more people can donate. More details on just HOW we will host virtually to come.
2. We are asking that you continue to engage with us on social media- share, like, comment- it is cost-less way to show your support and spread awareness. Who knows who might see it that could help us in a huge way!
3. We are asking that you tag our local media outlets and celebrities, preferably local or Canadian ones who might be touched to reach out with support if they are financially able, or just to share with their large fan bases. Again, you never know who it could reach!
Thank you all for your support!
Join us for our 21st Annual Balding for Dollars Main Event at BC Children’s Hospital! This event is to celebrate all of our oncology, hematology & BMT patients at BC Children’s Hospital, to fund raise for the amazing programs we support, and to show that Bald is Beautiful by participants cutting their hair & shaving for the brave all day long on our main stage!
This is a family friendly free event, open to the public, and we accept donations for all of the food and activities provided. We are also able to make secure credit card donations on site as well. Come enjoy the carnival style games, crafts, face painting, live music & entertainment, special guests, bubbles, photo booths & cheer on those amazing participants!
