To support and enhance the quality of life and care provided to oncology, hematology and bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients and their families at BC Children’s Hospital and other care centres within British Columbia.

What is Balding for Dollars?
Balding for Dollars is a registered charity that works in partnership with the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. We raise funds to provide support programs for children in BC living with cancer or a blood disorder. The programs we offer also support the families of the affected child because we know that a cancer diagnosis can affect the whole family.
How can I donate my hair?

Do you offer free haircuts for hair donors?
While we don’t provide free haircuts year-round, we host our main fundraising event every May, where you can either pre-register or sign up on event day to participate in our free head shave (or cut) which takes place all-day on our main event stage.
How are the donated wigs distributed to the kids that need them?
Balding for Dollars partners with Wigs for Kids BC and Eva & Co. Wigs to ensure that every Oncology/Hematology patient who wants a wig receives one. Patients first meet with a social worker and then visit Eva & Co. for a fitting and style selection. Thanks to the generous hair donations we receive, Eva & Co. can subsidize the cost of each wig (which typically ranges from $1,500 to $3,000) and the remaining balance is covered by the Wigs for Kids BC program.
Do I need to raise money to donate my hair?
There is no obligation to raise funds alongside your hair donation. However, we do encourage it, as it helps support our cause even further and maximizes the impact of your contribution.
How can I register to shave my head at the Balding for Dollars main event?
Registration to participate in our main event usually opens at the beginning of the year (sometimes sooner). Look for the link here or Contact Us for more info.
I made a donation at a community event; how will I receive my tax receipt?
For online donations over $25, tax receipts are automatically generated and mailed to the address provided. Donations made by cash or cheque are only issued tax receipts for amounts over $25 submitted with a complete tax receipt request form.
I lost my tax receipt. How can I get a copy?
Please Contact Us with the details of your donation, including name, date, amount, email, and mailing address. We will direct your inquiry to Donor Services, who can assist with this request.
