Our first-ever virtual auction fundraiser just wrapped up last weekend which ran from May 7th – 16. We are so excited to announce the successful outcome of just over $11,000 raised. This was a cumulative total between winning auction bids for almost 100 items, our 50/50 cash prize draw, and direct donations through our virtual auction specific link. It took a lot of hustle to do outreach and curate a list of items; all of which were donated by amazing individuals and companies. Then we had to organize the listings, and finally watch the auction roll virtually, in-real time, and see the bids climb, with many items being very popular! And finally now the excitement of the event reaches its peak as all of the items have been dropped off, are on their way in the mail, or about to be picked up by the winners!
The event ran partially over the Mother’s Day weekend which is usually when we host our Annual Balding for Dollars Main Event that typically raises around $60-80,000; a huge portion of our average annual donations. And though we are sad to not be able to host our in-person head shave event AGAIN for the second year in a row, this was part of our pivot and innovation to do something engaging, fun, and help raise some of those funds we will be down on this year.
We are still hosting our Main Event virtually on the June 12th weekend, you can sign up to fundraise and cut/shave your hair here. And if you get your registration in before May 27th, you will be sent one of our “event-in-a-box” packages to help you celebrate your participation with a small taste of our usual big event.
We want to extend our gratitude once more to everyone who helped us make this a success! From those individuals and companies who donated items, the volunteers who jumped in to help source, collect, and deliver items pre and post auction, everyone that shared about our auction with their community, and those who bid on items, made a donation, or purchased 50/50 entries. We couldn’t have done it without you all- THANK YOU! We can’t wait to do another one again.
