The seasons are inevitably changing again, and with that we look back at a fun and busier-than-usual summer for Balding for Dollars, while we’re currently in a packed September for Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and are looking ahead to fall fun as well!

In July we helped host:

  • Our first-ever trivia night fundraiser- some fun for the adults! It was held at the Ox Pub downtown Vancouver, and supported by the wonderful folks at the Ox, and Nice Guys Trivia. We brought some awesome silent auction prizes, and held a 50/50 raffle to raise the fundraising potential. We are grateful for the prize donations, the trivia community, and some BCCH staff that came out to support, and the Ox for their space and donating a dollar from each drink purchase that night. The event raised $1800! We hope to do another one soon.

  • Bernie’s Track Walk event- alongside starlight we helped host families at the Mission raceway providing snacks, drinks, treats, and bubbles for the families to enjoy. Though it was a hot day, the families got treated to a walk and info session around the raceway and some awesome close ride-by’s from the super fast motor bikes. Always a fun family favourite!

  • A Vancouver Bandits game. We sent 10 families and many volunteers and Balding supporters to a Bandits game in July complete with dining vouchers and Balding t-shirts. It was such a fun atmosphere once again, and we were beneficiaries of the 50/50 funds as well. We also had an amazing special guest family who got to be interviewed and do the game day ball tip off! We can’t wait to go back again next year.

  • 10 teens went to Whistler for a teen-adventure getaway supported by Power2be. They got to zipline and do the peak to peak gondola, hike, and enjoy time with other teens. We are so grateful for donors who make these trips a possibility!

We received over 50 hair donations mailed in over the summer, and several individuals sign up to fundraise & shave or cut their hair- And did you know, we mail out t-shirts to anyone who participates year round!

This September there have been some initiatives that have warmed our hearts. Our oncology/hematology Patient & Parent advocate had gold ribbons & bracelets for families in the lounge all month, as well as ribbons for the staff, and a project with our button machine- so staff could wear patients art all month as well.

We’ve also had a few community members step up with fundraisers this month.
🎗 The Abbotsford Falcons with their touchdowns for dollars campaign.
🎗 A local parent, trying to walk100,000 steps this month and raise funds.
🎗 Jayden Lee- running 100 miles Oct. 6th, and with a goal of raising $150,000 for oncology initiatives at BCCHF.
Fall is shaping up with Jayden’s big run kick off party Oct. 6th from 3-6pm at BCCH, another Music in the Neighbourhood concert set for November, and a few other exciting things brewing with a potential moms retreat, other community fundraisers, and in-patient activities as we near some special fall holidays! Stay tuned, and as always thanks for the support!
